The average Canadian household wastes about $1500 worth of food per year. A large portion of this food waste is edible, and includes healthy food like fruits and vegetables.

A great way to eat healthy, reduce food waste and save more money is by loving your leftovers! Create a whole new meal from last night’s supper.

Enter the Love Your Leftovers Recipe Draw for a chance to win 1 of 5 Zero Waste kits!

Dufferin Waste and WDG Public Health launched the Plan to Save Reduce Food Waste campaign in 2019 to help you waste less food, save more money and eat healthier in the process! Visit the campaign page to learn more about the campaign and to access free resources!

Guidelines to enter:

  1. Fill out the entry form.
  2. Take a leftover meal from breakfast, lunch or dinner and use those ingredients to make a new meal. Check out the Love Food Hate Waste leftover recipe webpage for inspiration.
  3. Take a picture of the new meal made from the leftovers and post it to the Love Your Leftovers Recipe tool along with the leftover meal ingredients and recipe for the new meal.
  4. Invite family, friends and colleagues to participate! (Optional)
  5. Leftover recipes must be submitted by January 8, 2023 at 11:59pm

Participants must meet the following requirements for their name to be entered into the draw. Three names will be chosen:

  1. Winners must be Dufferin County residents to be eligible for a prize. A completed entry form plus your leftovers recipe must both be submitted to be eligible for a prize. (Personal information will remain confidential).
  2. Only ONE submission per person allowed.
  3. Entries must include the ingredients from a leftover meal, a recipe for the new meal created by the leftovers and a photo or two. Feel free to post a picture of the leftover meal before creating a new meal from it.
  4. All results/winners will be final and non-negotiable.

Prizes*:

1 of 5 Zero Waste kits.

*Five names will be drawn for the chance to win 1 of 5 prizes.
