About the Master Housing Strategy
Fundamental to creating healthy and inclusive communities is the availability of housing options to meet the diverse needs of current and future residents. Similar to communities all across Ontario and Canada, Dufferin County is experiencing housing pressures due to changing demographics and market trends.

Providing access to a range of housing forms, including affordable housing, is a priority for the County. Dufferin County is currently the largest community housing provider in the County offering a range of housing programs and services, from home ownership programs to housing stability. With a growing population and increases in the need for a range of affordable housing options, Dufferin County has initiated the creation of a Master Housing Strategy (MHS).

The main goal of the MHS is to develop a long-term strategic plan that leverages existing owned land to identify and redevelop existing properties, and to explore the potential of surplus and underutilized County-owned lands to expand affordable housing options.

Development of the MHS aligns with the County’s core values identified within the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan of collaboration, accountability, innovation, compassion, and courage. The MHS will support Dufferin County’s mission to provide housing programs and services that will foster a thriving, equitable and resilient community.

Where are we now?
The project is just getting underway and is expected to be completed this Fall (2024). Over the next four months, the project team will be collecting and analyzing demographic and socio-economic data, reviewing existing policies and plans, assessing the County’s current housing portfolio and waiting lists, identifying and reviewing existing housing sites, and engaging with community organizations and residents.
