Green Development Standards (GDS) include measures for developers and builders to create thoughtful and innovative developments using sustainable design.
GDS are based on principles to guide development at a level of planning and design that focuses on the community as a whole. They are a critical policy tool for municipalities to achieve their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, their Official Plan goals, their goals for sustainability, and support climate adaptation.
How Can I Get Involved?
On March 26, 2024 a Public Information Session was held in Dufferin to explore residents' vision for Green Development Standards.
The public session was organized with a presentation to provide the context for the conversations, followed by table group activities aimed at getting input from all those in attendance on questions posed by the team. The table groups were self facilitated using work sheets and precedent photos provided by the team. The presentation introduced what Green Development Standards are, the context for GDS in the Counties and an overview of the 10 sustainability principles. The public session included three questions:- what does a sustainable community mean to you?
- what aspects of your community do you want to preserve?
- what’s important to be considered in each one of the 10 sustainability principles?
